A Thousand Clowns
Nick, 12, lives with his Uncle Murray, a Mr.Micawber-like Dickensian character who hopes nothing happens. A social worker appears, who falls for Murray and Nick. As the child care workers try to make Murray a traditional man (in exchange for letting him retain Nick), Murray's nephew, who has always admired his uncle's rebellious ways, tries to mediate. When he succeeds, he is concerned about the uncle's readiness to compromise to keep the connection.
