AnneFrank. Parallel Stories
"One single Anne Frank moves us more than the countless others who endured just as much as she did but whose faces have remained in the shadows," Primo Levi said. Helen Mirren, who won an Academy Award® for her performance, will tell the narrative of Anne Frank to audiences through the words that were written in her diary. Set designers from the Piccolo Theatre in Milan will meticulously recreate her room in the anonymous safe house in Amsterdam to serve as the stage setting for the performance. This year, Anne Frank would have turned 90 years old if she were still alive. Anne's tale is intertwined with the stories of five other Holocaust survivors who were young girls just like her, who shared the same aspirations and the same will to live. These five women are Arianna Szorenyi, Sarah Lichtsztejn-Montard, Helga Weiss, and the Bucci sisters, Andra and Tatiana. Alternating between their own testimonials and those of their children and grandchildren is the next generation to share their stories.
