Au Revoir les Enfants

During the Nazi occupation of France in World War II, two youngsters form a close connection and lose their lives in a tragic accident. There is great friendship amongst the precocious adolescents at boarding school until a secret is discovered. The film is based on events from the writer-director Malle's own upbringing, and it is a nuanced, precisely observed narrative of courage, cowardice, and tragic awakening.
