Before We Grow Old
Berlin during the summer. Three twenty-somethings are Maria and Niels, two Berliners, and Chlo, a British student. They go headfirst into a careless and tumultuous love affair with each other while drifting libidinously across Berlin. They enjoy life to the fullest, grabbing anything they want. Their sole compass seemed to be the joy they derive from being together, which is fine until Chlo unintentionally becomes pregnant. Now comes the insecurity, rage, envy, and mistrust. Abortion is a planned procedure that is turned down. Who, when, and about what is allowed to have a voice? Their odd trio disintegrates, and their once-balanced connection morphs into shifting constellations of two –until it appears that a perilous equilibrium can be restored, if only for a brief period. Is their utopia within grasp, or is this just a lull in the action? It's difficult to love in a new way. Maria, Niels, and Chlo will catch the world off guard. They also aren't.
