Blame!

In the far future, technology has advanced to the point where the Internet is the best way to live. In the past, a "infection" caused the automated systems to go out of control, creating a city with many levels that keeps making copies of itself in all directions. Humans no longer have access to the city's controls, and the defense system called the Safeguard is hunting them down and getting rid of them. In a tiny corner of the city, a small group of people called the Electro-Fishers is trapped between the threat of the Safeguard and dwindling food supplies. They may soon go extinct. Zuru goes on a journey to find food for her village, but inadvertently brings about the end of the world when an observation tower sees her and sends a Safeguard pack to kill the threat. With her friends dead and no way out, the only thing that can save her now is if Killy the Wanderer, who is looking for the Net Terminal Genes, which are the key to putting the world back in order, shows up out of the blue.
