Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden
The Austrian artist Egon Schiele is one of the most provocative in Vienna at the beginning of the twentieth century. Beautiful ladies and an age that is coming to an end are the driving forces behind his life and art. Two ladies will have a lasting impression on him-his sister Gerti, and Wally, the 17-year-old Wally, who is arguably Schiele's one true love. Gustav Klimt and other daring painters, as well as art dealers, are spooked by Schiele's unconventional paintings. Egon Schiele, on the other hand, is willing to go beyond his own suffering and to give up his love and his life for his work in the name of it.
