Eroica
Two World War II-themed sketches. In the first novel, "Scherzo alla polacca," a cunning son, trying to save his skin, eventually becomes a hero and discovers a reason to fight. He initially tries to avoid underground training in order to avoid the Warsaw uprising. When he is sober, his drunkenness, disregard for safety, and cowardice come across as something sane in a crazy world. His desire to live out his life is more acceptable than any desire for a heroic death. The second novel, "Ostinato lugubre," is about a man who can no longer stand the confinement and idiocy of the professional soldiers trying to maintain military preneses in prison. Nonetheless, his escape boosts the morale of his fellow prisoners, while the "escapee" remains hidden from Germans and comrades alike." Polish Cinema Database
