F for Fake
Elmyr de Hory and Clifford Irving, two notorious forgers, are profiled in this film. De Hory built his career selling fake works of art by Picasso and Matisse, and ultimately committed himself to escape extra prison time. Irving became famous for writing a bogus Howard Hughes memoirs. Welles explores the essential principles of fraud and the people who perpetrate fraud at the expense of others by alternating between reality and fiction.
