Fittest on Earth: Next Gen
If each new generation of champions is able to see further than the one before them, it is because they are able to "stand on the shoulders of giants," such as Rich Froning and Annie Thorisdottir. Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey are also examples of such champions. When Fraser announced that he would end his competitive career at the end of the 2020 season, he made room for a fresh group of competitors to enter the fray. The 15th year of the Games was celebrated in 2021 with 15 events aimed to test the limits of human potential and the contestants' deservingness to be considered the fittest. These competitions included both new and experienced competitors. Toomey proceeded with the same steadiness and composure as a clock in a storm while simultaneously shattering records and securing her position as the most unbeatable athlete in the annals of CrossFit Games competition. In the midst of the unexpected outcomes, upsets, and staggering displays of incomparable athleticism, Toomey ticked on with consistency and calmness like a clock in the storm. We watched the comeback of some of the sport's all-time greats and the ascent of the new initiates at the 2021 Games. These new initiates are the ones who will carry the legacy of the Fittest on Earth for the next generation of athletes.
