Hearts and Minds
When it came to the Vietnam War, Lyndon B. Johnson stated numerous times throughout his administration that the final success rested on the United States military winning over the "hearts and minds" of the Vietnamese people. In this anti-war documentary, directed by Peter Davis and released while the Vietnam War was still in progress, Johnson's phrase is used in an ironic context. The film juxtaposes interviews with military figures such as U.S. Army Chief of Staff William C. Westmoreland with shocking scenes of violence and brutality.
