Hell Is for Heroes
The plot of this World War II drama revolves around a single maneuver performed by a squad of GIs in retaliation against the German Siegfried line force. Reese is among a group of tired GIs who are unexpectedly ordered back into the line while on their way to a rest stop. While the majority of the men withdraw from their positions facing a German pillbox on the other side of a minefield, a half-dozen men are left to defend a wide front. They manage to persuade the Germans that a large force is still in control of the position through a variety of ruses. Then Reese leads two of the men in an unauthorized and unsuccessful attack on the pillbox, killing the other two, and he is threatened with court-martial when the main platoon returns. Rather than face the humiliation, he launches a one-man attack on the pillbox in an attempt to prove he was correct.
