Hud
Hud Bannon is a vicious young guy who brings disrepute to everything and everyone he comes into contact with. In many ways, Hud embodies the idealized alienated adolescent, recklessly acting without regard for the consequences of his actions. Between Hud's heartless nature and his severe and very moral father, Homer, there is a bitter battle of values. Despite the fact that Hud's nephew Lon admires Hud's cheating methods, Lon quickly grows tired of Hud's reckless amorality and decides that he can no longer stand him. Hud is a winner in the world of the takers and the taken. In spite of the fact that he's an outright cheat, he argues, "I always claim the law was intended to be applied liberally."
