I Never Sang for My Father
It's Hackman who portrays a professor in New York City who decides to marry his long-term lover and move to California for a fresh start. However, he is warned by his mother that moving so far away may be difficult for his father. Prior to their nuptials, a mother dies. When their father disowns Hackman's sister for marrying a Jew, she gives him the advice to be independent and not allow his father rule his life.
