King of the Children

An unschooled boy, among the numerous targets of Mao's Cultural Transformation, is labouring in the countryside when he is all of a sudden assigned to instruct in a near-by village school. Gradually, he finds the self-confidence to ditch the Maoist book as well as encourage the hardly literate youngsters to cover their very own lives and feelings. At the same time, via a series of dream-like meetings with a young cowherd, he begins to sense the opportunities of a life beyond the criteria of standard education.
