King Rat

When Singapore fell to the Japanese in 1942, the Allied POWs were held in Changi Prison, predominantly British but also some Americans. There were no walls or barbed wire fences because the captives couldn't escape. Among the detainees is American Cpl. King, a wheeler dealer who has made a decent living in the camp. While most of the prisoners are starving and wearing tattered uniforms, King eats well and wears clean clothes every day. Lt. Peter Marlowe, a high class British officer, is charmed by King's élan.
