Days later, Simon Bernstein, a young Jewish boy hiding from the Germans, returns to his childhood home. At order to protect Simon from Pierre-Jean and his wife, Batignole hides him in his home. After after, two of Simon's cousins come to see him in a grocery store cellar. The children are discovered by Pierre-Jean, and Batignole makes the decision to take them to Switzerland.
