Once I Was a Beehive
Lane Speer is a 16-year-old girl who enjoys camping with her family in the mountains during her summer holidays. It is not until her father succumbs to an unexpected battle of cancer that she realizes how important these memories are to her. Only a year later, as Lane is still grieving the loss of her father, her mother remarries, this time to a man who Lane has never met before. Worst of all, he is a member of the Mormon faith. The cherry on top is that, while they are away on their honeymoon, they arrange for her to remain with her Mormon step-aunt, who then whisks her away to a bible-themed ladies camp with a group of other young Mormon girls. With memories of family camping trips resurfacing, she attempts to make peace with her new surroundings while also dealing with the death of her father.
