Shortcut to Happiness
Jabez Stone, an aspiring writer in Manhattan, is a complete failure: he cannot sell his works, he lives in a substandard flat, and he has no success with women. When one of his pals, Julius Jenson, sells his manuscript to an editor for US$ 190,000.00, Jabez becomes envious and vows to sell his soul to the devil in exchange for success, inadvertently killing a woman with his typing machine. The Devil knocks on his door, resolves the matter, and enters into a deal with Jabez. His low-quality writings receive negative reviews but become bestsellers; Jabez enriches himself; he enjoys success with ladies but has little time for his buddies. Jabez encounters publisher Daniel Webster, who offers him the opportunity to break the devil's contract.
