Silmido
North Korean commandos penetrated South Korea on January 31, 1968, as part of an unsuccessful attempt to kill President Park Chung-hee, according to historical records. In retaliation, the South Korean military formed a team of 31 criminals on the island of Silmido with the intention of assassinating Kim Il-sung in a suicide mission to restore their dignity, but the plan was cancelled, leaving the criminals disappointed. It is loosely based on a military insurrection that took place in the 1970s in the United States.
