In2001, The Boston Globe editor Marty Baron hires a team of reporters to examine charges against John Geoghan, an unordained priest suspected of assaulting more than eighty minors. Under the direction of editor Walter "Robby" Robinson, reporters Michael Rezendes, Matt Carroll, and Sacha Pfeiffer conduct interviews with victims and attempt to unseal confidential papers. The objective of the reporters is to uncover evidence of a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.
