The Holy Mountain
A Mexican master leads a figure of Christ and other disciples to a mountain of immortal wise men. The Holy Mountain, written and directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, was a big scandal at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973. It is a spiritual quest for enlightenment that pits illusion against truth. The Alchemist (Jodorowsky) brings together people from all walks of life to act as the planets in the solar system. The occult expert's plan is to put his recruits through strange mystical rites and rid them of their worldly problems before they go to Lotus Island. There, they climb the Holy Mountain to get rid of the immortal gods who secretly rule the universe.
