The Importance of Being Earnest
Algernon Moncrieff is taken aback when he learns that his millionaire friend — whom he refers to as "Ernest" — is actually named Jack Worthing, rather than Ernest. Jack created his alter identity in order to get away from his rural home, where he is in charge of Cecily Cardew, his charge at the time. Having come to assume that Ernest is Jack's wayward brother, Cecily is enthusiastic about his rogue lifestyle. Algernon, spotting an opportunity, adopts Ernest's identity and sneaks away to court Cecily in secret.
