The Orphanage

A historical drama featuring musical Bollywood sequences. Kabul in the 1990s. Values from the Soviet Union run the country. Women can wear miniskirts, children can go to school, and people can go to the movies, concerts, and universities. Life in Afghanistan is similar to life in the West. Qodrat, who is 14 years old, sells movie tickets on the illegal market in the streets of Kabul. After accidentally selling a ticket to a secret police officer, he ends up at a Soviet orphanage, where he lies about his identity in order to get more power. Qodrat's everyday life is about making friends, falling in love, doing bad things, and going on adventures, just like it is for kids in other places. But as the Mujahideens start the civil war, the world they used to know is changing drastically behind the walls of the orphanage.
