The Taming of the Shrew
Until her older sister Katharina, a depraved shrew, marries, Baptista, a wealthy Paduan businessman, declares his fair young daughter Bianca to be unmarried. Lucentio, the son of a wealthy Pisan businessman, has fallen in love with Bianca, a student and the daughter of a wealthy family. To get entry into the Baptista household and be near Bianca, he pretends to be a music and poetry tutor. Petruchio, a Verona scoundrel on the prowl for a rich lady, comes in Padua at the same time. Petruchio's attention is drawn to Katharina by Hortensio, another suitor of Bianca. In response to Hortensio's warnings concerning Katharina's outspokenness and violent temper, Petruchio vows to win her affections. In order to aid Petruchio in his pursuit of Katharina, Hortensio and another potential suitor for Bianca, Gremio, have agreed to foot the bill.
