Witch Hunt
"Witch Hunt," a compelling critique of the American justice system presented through the lens of a small community, is directed by Sean Penn, who also serves as executive producer. Bakersfield, California voters have put in place a district attorney who is harsh on crime and has been in office for more than 25 years. During his tenure, he was responsible for the convictions of dozens of innocent working-class mothers and fathers. It took them years and sometimes decades before they were acquitted of the charges against them. He is still in office as of now. On a local level, this story reflects the events that have taken place in the United States over the last eight years. It is dangerous to allow power to exist without proper control because it puts civil rights at risk.
