Zazie dans le Métro

A brazen and precocious ten-year-old travels to Paris with her rakish uncle for a busy weekend. He and the viewer, however, receive more than they bargained for in Louis Malle's anarchic comedy, which runs roughshod over the City of Light. Based on an unadaptable Raymond Queneau novel, Malle's daring Zazie dans le Métro, filmed on the cusp of the French New Wave, is a bit of stream-of-consciousness slapstick packed with visual gags, editing gimmicks, and effects.
