Bob and Margaret
Bob and Margaret is a Canadian/UK animated TV series that aired worldwide. The series was created by David Fine and Alison Snowden of Nelvana, a Toronto animation studio. The series was based on the Oscar-winning animated short Bob's Birthday, which won in 1994. One of the few Canadian TV shows with frequent American exposure. When it aired on Global Television, it was the highest-rated Canadian animated series ever. The sitcom centered on a middle-class English couple in their 40s with no children and two dogs named William and Elizabeth. Margaret is a chiropodist. Bob is a dentist. Bob and Margaret face daily problems and midlife crises. Stories focus on the mundane in an accessible way. From shopping to annoying friends owing them dinner. Bob and Margaret spent the first two seasons at Balham, South London. For seasons 3 and 4, they moved to Toronto, Canada, allowing authors to explore culture clash humor. Certain Canadian tax incentives depend on stories set in Canada, inspiring the move. Keeping the series funded required the change. The series creators elected to take an executive role on the latter two seasons, evaluating scripts and consulting, but not in detail. Margaret was voiced by Snowden, whereas Bob was portrayed by Brian George.
