Dante
Howard Duff plays Willie Dante, a former gambler who runs a San Francisco nightclub. Alan Mowbray played Maitre d' Stewart Styles, Tom D'Andrea played Dante's "man Friday," and Mort Mills was Lt. Bob Malone. Dante pretends to have left his past behind yet keeps Stewart and Biff. Although his club is legal, neither the police nor the mob believe he's done with the criminal underbelly. Dante's old gangster friends start showing up to the club to tempt him back. Dick Powell played Dante in eight episodes of his Four Star Playhouse, scripted by Blake Edwards, who also developed Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Willie runs an illegal gambling operation in the "Inferno," which is shut down by authorities. The sole regular from the Four Star Playhouse version to be cast in the series was Mowbray, who portrayed a millionaire who lost his money and became a waiter at Dante's. Reruns were titled The Best in Mystery.
