Globe Trekker
Pilot Productions produces the Globe Trekker adventure tourism television series. The Lonely Planet travel guides served as inspiration for the British series, which premiered in 1994. Globe Trekker is available in more than 40 countries across six continents. Each episode involves a presenter, known as a traveller, who travels to a country—often a rather exotic locale—with a camera team to enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture that the location has to offer. City, beach, dive, shopping, history, festival, and cuisine guides are featured in special episodes. In order to give viewers a more authentic glimpse at local culture, the show frequently ventures beyond major tourist attractions. Presenters frequently partake in various parts of regional life, such as attending a traditional wedding or seeing a mining community. They speak directly to the camera as tourists-turned-tour guides, but they are also seen interacting with locals and discovering interesting spots in spontaneous sequences. Brief interviews with backpackers who provide suggestions on independent travel in that particular country are occasionally included in Globe Trekker.
