On the surface, William Travers appears to be a model of success. A successful criminal barrister lives contentedly with his wife in rural Suffolk. Travers, on the other hand, is still reeling from a sequence of tragic experiences that have damaged his faith in the court system. He is reluctantly lured into a case involving his old buddy Martin Newall, who is facing conspiracy and murder accusations while being investigated by DS Mark Wenborn, a cruel and angry detective.
