Invisible Heroes
The book "Invisible Heroes" recounts the courageous actions of a group of young Finns serving as ambassadors in Chile during the notorious military revolution that occurred there in 1973. Together with Tapani Brotherus's wife, Lysa Brotherus, Finnish diplomats Tapani Brotherus and Ilkka Jaamala assisted more than two thousand Chileans on the political left in evading the persecution of the military dictatorship. The Finns' actions were not sanctioned by their government, although Swedish ambassador Harald Edelstam was the most vocal defender of human rights and had the support of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme.
