Jack Taylor
Jack Taylor is an Irish television drama based on Ken Bruen's novel series. Set in Galway, the series stars Iain Glen as Jack Taylor, a former Garda Sochána officer who becomes a "finder" after quitting the agency. Taylor is the type of person that goes seeking for hints where others haven't. He also knows his hometown's streets like the back of his hand. The series premiered on TV3 in Ireland on August 2, 2010, and was afterwards carried on Canvas in Belgium with Dutch subtitles. It made its UK debut on Channel 5 on February21, 2013. The series has also been released on DVD. Critics have given it mixed reviews. The Irish Times' Bernice Harrison felt the series was ruined by Glen's voiceovers, which gave the character the sense of a gumshoe in a film noir. However, David Stephenson of the Daily Express was fascinated by the first episode's outstanding opening sequence. A real-life private investigator interviewed by The Guardian's Laura Barnett noted that while the series was entertaining, it did not always reflect his trade accurately.
