Lucy Worsley's Nights at the Opera
Opera has been the greatest show on earth in Western culture for centuries. Lucy Worsley, a historian, investigates the relationship between history and opera. She travels to the great European cities where some of the most famous operas were written, telling the stories of the colorful characters who wrote them and demonstrating how they reflected the turbulent times in which they were written, as well as the lives, hopes, and fears of the people who lived there. While Lucy travels through towns and European opera houses, Antonio Pappano, the music director of London's Royal Opera, explains some of the operas' most memorable musical moments.
