The Tribe
Television show "The Tribe" is a New Zealand/British television series aimed at teenagers. Adults have been eradicated by a fatal virus, leaving the children of the globe to fend for themselves in a near-future society. The drama takes place in an unknown city where a variety of young people live in various groups. In and around Wellington, New Zealand, the majority of the filming took place. A collaboration between the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group and the UK's Channel 5 conceived and produced the programme. More than 40 broadcast networks around the world have aired the show. It was a huge success. Originally aired on April24,1999, on Channel5, the show soon developed a considerable following. More than 260 half-hour episodes were created between 1999 and 2003 in five seasons. Originally, production on Series 6 was set to begin in2003, but Nick Wilson of Channel 5 and Raymond Thompson believed that "despite the show still performing well, the cast was getting too elderly and the series was beginning to strain the fundamental proposition." They had the impression that the characters were no longer children left to their own devices in the absence of caregivers. The show was canceled as a result. The final two episodes of the series broadcast on September 6th,2003, on Channel 5.
