Till Death Us Do Part ran on BBC1 from 1965 to 1975. The Comedy Playhouse pilot aired seven series till 1975. Six years later, ITV continued the show as Till Death. BBC made In Sickness and in Health from 1985 to 1992. Till Death Us Do Part followed the East End Garnett family, led by bigoted and anti-socialist patriarch Alf Garnett. His wife Else, played by Dandy Nichols, and daughter Rita, by Una Stubbs. Rita's smart, lazy husband Mike Rawlins is a socialist. Alf Garnett became a well-known character in British culture, and Mitchell performed him on stage and TV until 1998. Till Death Us Do Part was remade in Brazil, Germany, and the U.S. As was the strategy in the late 1960s and early 1970s, many episodes from the first three series were deleted.
