Witchblade
Based on the American comic book of the same name, Witchblade is a popular anime series on Japanese television. An whole new plot and cast of characters were developed instead of simply adapting the original. Top Cow, the American publisher that owns the rights to the Witchblade brand, licensed this Japanese-American co-production for release in the United States. On the American cable network IFC, the English dub premiered in January 2008. Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the show was broadcast on IFC; the series finale aired on June 13th, 2008. Xbox Live and PlayStation Network also provide a pay-to-download option for the show. In addition to the first twelve episodes, Amazon's Unbox service offers the option of downloading them. Netflix Instant Stream is another way to watch the show. Hulu began offering it for free in June of that year. Since Vol. 1 was published in September2007, there have been six DVDs available in the United States and Canada as of December 2008. A boxed collection with all 24 episodes plus a bonus disc with bonus content is also available. On November 3rd,2009, a Blu-ray box set was made available. Characters were developed for the anime by Uno Makoto, who also designed Stellvia and Love Hina characters, as well as the characters for Galaxy Angel and Galaxy Angel Z.
