A devoted, beautiful priest serving as confessor for a monastery filled with ladies encourages the institution's equally zealous abbess to impose stringent rules on these unhappy women. Simultaneously, a particularly disturbed nun poisons herself and a large number of the other novitiates, resulting in yet another scandal that is concealed by church authorities.
