Born in Evin
Maryam Zaree was born in a political prison that is well-known in Iran. In her first documentary, she goes on a personal search for answers. To break the silence, she talks to her parents about the violent events that happened around the time she was born. She also talks to other kids who were born in Evin about their experiences and how scary they were. Maryam Zaree's cinematic style is based on her own life, but it also draws attention to the horrors of persecution and dehumanization in Iran and elsewhere.
