San Francisco pawnbroker Garvey is a member of the community. In order to rob Garvey's shop while he's out of town, Dillard, Turtle, and Weslake — all of whom are out of work and criminals — get together with local pimp Boardwalk. In the midst of a lengthy planning process, Dillard develops feelings for the sister of a friend's girlfriend. When Boardwalk is assigned to investigate a local apartment, the maid introduces him to the property's owner. Amidst Weslake's lovemaking, the gang comes up with a burglary scheme, which is carried out by Weslake himself.
