Eight Men Out
One of the saddest teams ever to win a pennant was the 1919 Chicago White Sox. Charles Comiskey, the team's penny-pinching owner, as well as their own teammates, are the source of the team's resentment. A number of gamblers have taken advantage of this occasion to offer some players money in exchange for throwing the series. To their credit, however, Buck Weaver and the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson return in the last moments to give it their all. After trailing3-1, the Red Sox came within one game of making a comeback. Almost two years later, the truth finally comes out, and the Boston Red Sox are sued on a variety of grounds. But baseball commissioner Landis has a different strategy in mind. As Buck Weaver continues to fight to clear his name, the eight players who were suspended for life are also being held in contempt of court.
