Carrie, a teenager from the big city, sees her life completely upended when she follows her father to a horse ranch in the middle of Wyoming to live with him. But everything shifts when Carrie meets Flicka, a wild mustang with jet-black mane and tail who is just as unrestrained and independent-minded as Carrie herself.
