Tom and Anna Wright, a young American couple, accumulate significant debt while remodeling Anna's family property in London. The couple faces the loss of their dream of owning a home and starting a baby when they learn that the tenant in the apartment below them has died and left behind $400,000 in cash. Tom and Anna determine that the idea is straightforward, despite their initial reluctance: they need merely steal the money and use it to pay off their debts. Then, when they can't stop spending the money, they become the focus of a lethal foe-the criminal who stole it— and terrible things begin to occur to fine people.
