Anne and Bob, an affluent and well-connected American couple, relocate into a manor house in beautiful Paris to spice up their stale marriage. Our hostess realizes there are 13 visitors while preparing a particularly opulent supper for sophisticated foreign friends. Panicked, Anne orders her faithful maid Maria to disguise herself as a strange Spanish noblewoman to balance the books. However, a little too much wine and some lighthearted banter leads Maria to endear herself to a dashing British art dealer. Anne will chase her maid about Paris, eventually preparing to end this most unexpected and joyful love affair.
