Gus Cantrell, a washed-up minor league pitcher, steps up to the plate to take over as manager of the Minnesota Twins' hapless farm team at the request of Roger Dorn, the club's silver-tongued new owner. But he has no idea that Dorn is planning a grudge match between the big leaguers and their ragtag Triple A affiliate in order to generate publicity.
