Joshua Barrett glides through the monotony of his repetitious, workaday life in a dystopian future when pain and emotion have been numbed by a government-issued narcotic called Torpase. However, when Joshua is abducted by a dissident priest, he is introduced to a world beyond Torpase, which challenges all he believed he knew about what it means to live.
