Ofelia, a young girl of ten years old, is living with her cruel stepfather in a new house with her expectant mother. Ofelia feels isolated until she explores a deteriorating labyrinth that is guarded by a mysterious faun who claims to know her fate. Ofelia is faced with three challenging errands that need to be accomplished before she may be reunited with her biological father.
