Across the bay from the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors is a Warriors team that plays exclusively home games. Some promising players for the San Quentin Prison team had their lives wrecked by felony convictions. The subject of this enlightening and motivational documentary is the arduous path to recovery. The focus of Q Ball is on resolute men struggling with the severity of their actions and seeking salvation. The film focuses on about-to-be-paroled star player Harry "ATL" Smith, who has not given up his NBA dreams; Anthony "Ant" Ammons, a lifer who has become a mentor to younger inmates; and head coach Rafael Cuevas, a convicted murderer who recognizes his role in preparing his players for life on the outside.
