McKaye, the criminal who formerly terrorized Marshal Flagg, has returned to the area and is preparing a robbery. It is revealed that McKaye has been replaced as the gang's head by the youth Waco, who regards McKaye as nothing more than an aged, decrepit old man. For refusing to shoot Flagg Waco abandons Mackaye as well as Flagg." On returning to town, Mackaye discovers that Flagg has been "retired," and he convinces Mackaye that the two of them are the only ones who can stop Waco's gang from terrorizing their community from the inside out.
