The Benedict twins, Julius and Vincent, are the product of a scientific experiment designed to produce the ideal offspring. Julius was a planned child and develops into an athletic young man. Vincent was born prematurely and has a more diminutive build than his siblings. Vincent is transferred to an orphanage, and Julius is transported to a remote island in the South Pacific where he is fostered by a group of thinkers. As a result of Vincent's descent into the lowest of the low, loan sharks are on the verge of taking his life.
