A storm traps an unusual family on a Kansas farm. The clan's patriarch is a retired soda pop magnate. He's dating a children's TV evangelist now. His slacker daughter and her precocious 8-year-old kid, his would-be artist son, his fiancée, and the black maid live on the property with him. Her ex-husband, a charlatan seeking redemption from his ex-wife, is thus thrown into the fray, as well.
